IPL 2025 Auction: Five Cricketers Not Participating

A total of 577 players will be auctioned in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on November 24-25.

Some big names won’t be in this year’s auction. E28bangla looks at the top names:

1. Ben Stokes

Ben Stokes

“There’s a lot of cricket. I’m nearing the end of my career. I want to play as long as possible, so I need to take care of my body,” Stokes told BBC Sport.

The 33-year-old’s last IPL game was with Chennai Super Kings in 2023. He skipped the 2024 season to focus on Tests. By missing the 2025 auction, he also ruled himself out of the 2026 edition. The BCCI announced that players who didn’t register for the mega auction wouldn’t be eligible for the mini-auction.

“It’s about prioritizing games and being fully prepared. I’ll be playing in the SA20 this year. I want to wear the England shirt for as long as I can,” Stokes added.

2. Cameron Green

Cameron Green

The Australian all-rounder was a part of the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) team in IPL 2024 but wasn’t kept for the next season because of a back injury. This injury will keep him out for at least six months.

3. Joe Root

Joe Root

Former English captain Joe Root’s name is not on the final list for the IPL 2025 mega auction. Even though he has been playing very well in Test cricket, he has not done well in T20 cricket. Teams want to add more strong batters to their squads, which might be why Root is not included for the upcoming season.

4. Shikhar Dhawan

Shikhar Dhawan

Earlier this year, Shikhar Dhawan retired from cricket. He played for India in 34 Tests, 167 ODIs, and 68 T20Is. He is the second-highest run-scorer in IPL history. Dhawan captained Punjab Kings in the 2024 IPL season but was injured after five matches. He now plays in the Nepal Premier League.

5. Jason Roy

Jason Roy

Roy last played for Kolkata Knight Riders in 2023, scoring 285 runs in eight matches. He has also played for Sunrisers Hyderabad, Delhi Capitals, and Gujarat Lions. Roy withdrew from the 2024 season for personal reasons. Recently, he played for Trinbago Knight Riders in the Caribbean Premier League, scoring 195 runs in eight games.
